Artificial insemination has a greater chance of success in the summer

Women who undergo artificial insemination in the summer have a higher chance of becoming pregnant. According to experts on infertility treatment, the success rate of infants with this method is higher in summer than in winter.

Women who undergo artificial insemination in the summer have a higher chance of becoming pregnant. According to experts who have been involved in the treatment of infertility during the seasons, the success rate of infants with this method is higher in summer than in winter.
Possible explanations are the same biological processes as in mammals that give birth to youngsters in the spring.
Physicians have discovered the link between fertility and the influence of melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone that is released from the pituitary gland (part of the interval) and is mainly involved in managing the sleep and wake cycle. Melatonin levels fluctuate according to daytime, according to light and darkness. Most of this hormone is formed at night.

Melatonin does not only affect sleep

Scientists have found that another role of melatonin is regulation of reproduction. In particular, it inhibits the production of sex hormones and maturation of eggs. With the prolongation of the day during the summer, melatonin is produced for a short time and its effectiveness is smaller. It stops having a suppressive effect on the sexual system and thus increases fertility in the summer This mechanism is very well explored in animals, when melatonin production declines during the period.

IVF in summer and winter

A total of 2,700 women participated in a clinical study examining the differences between artificial fertilization (IVF) in summer and winter. In women who underwent IVF during the summer months (May to September), there was a higher chance of pregnancy than women who had been treated in the winter (November to February). In the summer, IVF success rate was 20%, in winter 15%. In addition, during the summer, women did not need as high doses of hormonal preparations as they did in winter to stimulate ovaries.
These data extend the existing knowledge about IVF and the factors that influence IVF. However, it is not necessary to deliberately avoid IVF therapy during the winter. The chances of pregnancy during the summer are slightly higher, but the woman can also get pregnant in the winter.
